Short description: The story takes place in the middle of the 19th century in Bulgaria. Maria is promised by her father to the rich son of the Chorbadjiya. Yet, her heart belongs to Atanas, a humble shepherd. Bound by love but trapped by tradition, the two struggle to defy the forces keeping them apart—only to discover that some destinies cannot be rewritten.
